The Sailor Susutake fountain pen is crafted from traditional smoked bamboo (susutake) and finished with natural urushi lacquer, preserving the distinctive grain and warm character of the material. The cap band is beautifully decorated in Kinji Maki-e, using gold powder to create a rich and refined golden surface, while the grip section is also finished in urushi. The exterior lacquer work was created by Mochizuki, a former member of the renowned Kokkokai group.
One of the most exceptional features of this pen is its nib, personally ground into Sailor's legendary Naginata shape by master nib craftsman Nobuyoshi Nagahara. Combining susutake bamboo, natural urushi, traditional Kinji Maki-e, and a Nagahara-ground Naginata nib, this is a remarkable Sailor creation with exceptional craftsmanship and significant collectible value.
