Sailor King of Pens Supreme Maki-e — Battle of Ganryujima

The Sailor King of Pens Supreme Maki-e “Battle of Ganryujima” immortalises one of the most legendary moments in Japanese history — the fateful duel between Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro on Ganryujima Island. A meeting of two supreme swordsmen, played out against the breaking dawn, it remains the defining image of the samurai spirit: discipline, mastery, and the acceptance of fate.

Maki-e artist Ikki Moroike renders this iconic encounter across the large ebonite body of Sailor’s flagship King of Pens Supreme, employing traditional lacquer techniques and meticulously applied gold and silver powders to achieve extraordinary depth, movement, and drama. Each pen is individually numbered and presented in a special lacquered box — a complete work of art in every dimension.
