The Sailor King of Pen Shu Urushi Cross Point brings together the commanding presence of the KOP, traditional Japanese Urushi craftsmanship, and one of Sailor’s most distinctive specialty nibs.
Shu Urushi, with its rich vermilion red color, is one of the classic expressions of Japanese lacquerware. Under different lighting and viewing angles, the lacquer reveals subtle variations in depth and a warm, elegant luster. With continued use and the passage of time, the Urushi surface will gradually develop an even richer and more personal character.
As Sailor’s flagship size, the King of Pen features a substantial body with beautifully balanced proportions. This special version is fitted with the highly regarded Cross Point nib.
The Cross Point features a distinctive crossed, layered nib construction that provides generous ink flow and remarkable line variation. By changing the writing angle, it can produce anything from relatively fine lines to exceptionally broad, rich, and expressive strokes, making it particularly well suited to expressive handwriting, calligraphy, and writing Japanese and Chinese characters.
The combination of traditional Shu Urushi, the impressive proportions of the King of Pen, and the extraordinary writing characteristics of the Cross Point makes this an exceptional writing instrument with a strong connection to Japanese craftsmanship and Sailor’s heritage of specialty nib making.
