The Sailor Limited Edition Kamakura-bori Fountain Pen, featuring a traditional diamond pattern motif, celebrates the traditional Japanese art of Kamakura-bori, a craft with a history spanning more than 700 years. Originating during the Kamakura Period, when numerous Buddhist temples were constructed, this art form is believed to have evolved from the techniques used by Buddhist sculptors to carve and lacquer religious objects.
Kamakura-bori is traditionally handcrafted from magnolia and ginkgo wood. The surface is intricately carved by hand and then finished with multiple layers of lacquer. One of its most distinctive techniques is Shumakinuri, in which powdered Makomo (wild rice) is sprinkled into vivid vermilion lacquer, creating a unique three-dimensional texture and depth rarely seen in other lacquer artworks.
This exceptional fountain pen incorporates the Kamakura-bori technique twice during its production, resulting in remarkable depth, texture, and visual richness. The barrel is adorned with the traditional Japanese diamond pattern, a timeless motif symbolizing prosperity, continuity, and good fortune, reflecting the refined elegance of Japanese craftsmanship.
Fitted with Sailor’s renowned 21K Naginata Togi nib, this pen offers a distinctive writing experience. The specially ground nib produces varying line widths depending on the writing angle and pressure, delivering exceptional character, expression, and smoothness on paper.
Limited to only 10 pieces worldwide, this rare edition combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship, artistic beauty, and one of Sailor’s most celebrated nibs. The Kamakura-bori Fountain Pen is both a remarkable writing instrument and an exceptional collector’s masterpiece.
