Sailor 21K Naginata-Togi — 2006 Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi「世界の万年筆祭」Limited Edition

Released exclusively at the 8th Sekai no Mannenhitsu-sai (World Fountain Pen Festival), held from March 14–19, 2006, at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Honten in Tokyo — only 30 pieces were ever made.

Barrel

The pen features the large, flat-top SIGMA 21K body profile, crafted from pear wood (梨花木) and finished with a clear lacquer coat. The transparent varnish preserves the natural grain and warmth of the wood while lending it a refined, luminous sheen — no two pens are alike.

Nib

The nib is a Naginata-Togi (長刀研) ground personally by Nobuyoshi Nagahara, Sailor's legendary nib master. This piece dates from the golden era of Nagahara's Naginata-Togi craftsmanship — a period widely regarded as producing the finest examples of this distinctive cursive-italic grind.

Rarity & Provenance

  • Limited to 30 pieces worldwide
  • Issued at the 2006 Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi pen festival — one of the most storied venues in Japanese pen culture
  • Contemporary event documentation confirms the Sailor 21K Naginata-Togi as a centrepiece offering of that year's festival
  • An exceptionally rare early Mitsukoshi exclusive, predating the wider collector awareness of Nagahara-ground nibs

For the serious collector of Japanese limited-edition fountain pens, this pen represents a convergence of artisan nib work, natural materials, and documented provenance that is unlikely to be replicated.
