Namiki No. 10 — Pigeon & Persimmon | Discontinued Masterpiece
In the quiet beauty of a Japanese autumn, a pigeon rests among branches heavy with ripe persimmons — a scene of warmth, abundance, and the gentle passage of the seasons. The Namiki Pigeon & Persimmon captures this timeless moment in lacquer, on a pen that is as much a painting as it is a writing instrument.
Executed entirely in togidashi maki-e (burnished maki-e) on a No. 10 brass body with deep black lacquer ground, the composition achieves a luminous, glass-smooth finish in which the pigeon's feathers, the persimmons' warm glow, and the delicate branch work are rendered with extraordinary precision. The togidashi technique — building up lacquer layer by layer, then polishing flush — creates a surface of remarkable depth, as if the scene exists within the lacquer rather than upon it.
Now discontinued and no longer in production, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Namiki's classic maki-e heritage.
