Namiki No. 10 — Pelican | By Norifumi | Discontinued
With its great wingspan folded in stillness, a pelican stands at the water's edge — patient, powerful, and utterly composed. The Namiki Pelican by maki-e artist Norifumi (伦史) renders this majestic bird in the full depth of togidashi maki-e, on a pen that is a study in quiet mastery.
The No. 10 brass body is finished in deep black lacquer, providing a rich, dark ground against which the pelican emerges through layers of painstakingly applied and polished lacquer. The togidashi maki-e (burnished maki-e) technique — in which lacquer is built up, then ground and polished to a glass-smooth flush surface — gives the bird a luminous, almost three-dimensional presence. Every feather, every subtle gradation of tone, is the result of Norifumi's patient hand and deep command of the craft.
Now discontinued and no longer available new, this is a rare chance to acquire a signed work by one of Namiki's distinguished maki-e artists.
