The Namiki Okita Naniwaya is part of the Nippon Art Collection, inspired by the celebrated beauty portraits of Edo-period ukiyo-e master Kitagawa Utamaro.
Okita was a young attendant at the Naniwaya teahouse in Edo and became one of the most famous beauties of the Kansei era. Utamaro portrayed her in several works, often depicting her gracefully serving tea, an image that became closely associated with her.
The design is recreated on the deep black lacquer body using traditional Hira Maki-e, bringing the elegance of Utamaro’s ukiyo-e imagery to life through delicate colors and the warm luster of Japanese lacquer.
Crafted by artisans of Namiki’s renowned Kokkokai group, the pen is fitted with a No.5 14K gold nib.
Combining one of Utamaro’s iconic Edo beauties with traditional Japanese Maki-e craftsmanship, Okita Naniwaya is a distinctive expression of ukiyo-e culture within the Namiki Nippon Art Collection.
