Namiki Emperor No.50 Chinkin Peony Fountain Pen
The Namiki Emperor No.50 Chinkin Peony is an exceptional example of traditional Japanese lacquer artistry, combining Namiki’s monumental Emperor form with the refined beauty of the Chinkin technique.
Design: Peony Blossoms on Black Urushi
Set against a deep black urushi lacquer surface, the design features magnificent peony blossoms — a flower traditionally associated with beauty, prosperity, and elegance. The generous surface of the Emperor No.50 allows the floral composition to unfold across the pen with remarkable presence and detail.
The Art of Chinkin
Unlike Maki-e, where decoration is built upon the lacquer surface, Chinkin involves carefully engraving fine lines and dots directly into the urushi. Gold is then applied into these precisely carved incisions, revealing the design through countless shimmering details. Variations in the density and depth of the engraving create subtle gradations, giving the peony petals an extraordinary sense of volume, softness, and depth.
Construction & Nib
- Crafted on Namiki’s flagship Emperor No.50 body
- Fitted with the No.50 18K gold nib — one of the largest fountain pen nibs in regular production
Combining the grandeur of the Emperor with the delicacy of hand-engraved peonies, the Chinkin Peony is a striking expression of Namiki craftsmanship and the sophisticated beauty of traditional Japanese lacquer art.
