The artwork combines two revered traditional techniques: Togidashi Maki-e (burnished Maki-e, where gold powder and lacquer are polished flush to create a luminous, painterly surface) and Taka Maki-e (raised Maki-e, where layers are built up in relief to create genuine three-dimensional texture). The result is a pen you can see and feel — goldfish scales, flower petals, and the shimmer of water all rising from the lacquer surface in true relief.
