The Nakaya Kago-amime Basket Mesh is one of Nakaya’s most distinctive creations, inspired by a woven fountain pen originally introduced by Platinum in 1924.
Its most remarkable feature is the exterior, which is hand woven from six thin strips of bamboo, creating an intricate basket mesh structure around the ebonite body. The bamboo is finished with urushi in a vivid Wakakusa green, allowing the natural texture of the woven material to remain beautifully visible.
Each piece requires extensive handwork, and the woven bamboo gives the pen a unique three dimensional texture and tactile character unlike a conventional lacquered fountain pen. Fitted with a 14K gold nib, it is a beautiful combination of traditional Japanese bamboo craft, urushi artistry, and Nakaya’s understated design.
