The Nakaya Cigar Long RYUKYU is a striking expression of Okinawan color and traditional Japanese lacquer artistry. The design takes its inspiration from Ryukyu Bingata, the traditional resist dyed textiles of Okinawa known for their vivid colors and distinctive floral patterns.
A brilliant vermilion urushi base covers the elongated Cigar Long body, providing a vibrant background for the colorful floral motifs rendered in maki-e. The combination of warm red lacquer with lively flowers gives the pen a distinctly tropical character, reflecting the rich visual culture of the Ryukyu Islands.
The Cigar Long is Nakaya’s clipless long model, measuring approximately 170 mm in length and 15 mm in diameter. Its smooth, uninterrupted silhouette places the focus entirely on the lacquer and maki-e decoration. The body is crafted from ebonite, keeping this unusually long pen relatively light at approximately 25 g.
With its vivid palette and unmistakable Okinawan influence, RYUKYU has a very different personality from Nakaya’s more restrained urushi finishes. It combines the elegant proportions of the Cigar Long with one of Nakaya’s most colorful contemporary maki-e designs.
